Hi! I'm John White - a former National Park Ranger and mountain guide here in the Lake District.

I've always enjoyed sharing my knowledge of the Lake District's wildlife, and my work has led me to discover many special places where you can see the area's wildlife at it's best.

I've devised a series of regular walks and special events that showcase this magnificent area, and I'll share with you some amazing sights and very special places. Depending which walk you choose, you can see the herds of wild red deer in Martindale, discover the spectacular birds of prey of Haweswater, watch badgers in Langdale, spot insectivorous plants, find out about our spectacular wildlife and enjoy that precious moment when you see something unexpected and beautiful.

I've also linked the use of modern technology with my walks, so you might use night vision binoculars or thermal imaging, or see footage from my 'wildlife cams' of what the badgers, deer and other wildlife has been up to.

Alongside the wildlife there's lots more to discover on my walks, including fascinating culture and history, and some of the best night skies in the UK. Children of all ages up to 99 might also enjoy the occasional skull, skeleton, egg or hoof that sometimes appears from the magic bag in my rucksack!

My walks are desgned for adults and children alike, and families and groups are very welcome. Details of what you need to bring appear on the page describing each walk, but in addition you'll need some patience and a keen pair of eyes!

The walks are generally easy, and details of the distance covered and terrain are also provided on each walk page.

Questions are always welcome, so please feel free to contact me on 01931 713115 or 07970 138591
